    Tour Overview
Gorilla Safari Uganda and Tours involving Lake Mburo National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Mountain Gorillas in Uganda– 5 Days

    Arrive in Uganda
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our safari guide will meet you and drive you to Kampala, ready for your trip launch the next morning.

Day 1: Depart for Lake Mburo, Brief Game Drive and Boat Ride
Depart by road to Lake Mburo National Park, which will take approximately 3-4 hours. You will have a break in your journey to visit the Royal Drum makers, stand at t

he Equator for a photographic opportunity, then continue to Lake Mburo National Park. This Park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates.

Bird watching opportunities are superb – this is one of the best places to find African finfoot and papyrus bush shrike. After checking in, you will take a late afternoon game drive or a boat canoe. Overnight in Mantana Tented Camp, Rwonyo Camp or UWA Bandas (Full Board)

Day 2: Lake Mburo Nature Walk, Head to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Start an early guided nature walk, taking you to the Salt Lick Area. A well-located wood stage offers an opportunity to see at least four different species of animals at any one point, while they lick the salty soil. Go back to camp for breakfast, after which you will head off for Kabale, where we will stop for lunch.

Continue on your journey, which offers excellent views, including the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. The road then drops down into a valley, to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the habitat of the mountain gorillas. Overnight at Gorilla Resort or Buhoma Community Bandas (Full Board)

Day 3: The Day for Gorilla Tracking Safari in Uganda
Get up early for a warm breakfast to give you the energy required for gorilla tracking. Before 8:00 am, report to the ranger station for registration and a talk by one of the rangers; the guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth and parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. (This trek can take from half an hour to 5 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes).

Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling, sitting in the dense rainforest, knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It’s amazing to think there are only about 650 of these beautiful creatures remaining.

If you have the energy this afternoon, take a guided walk on the Munyaga River trail, which is a superlative short walk. This trail leads to three delightful shining waterfalls, and there is an abundance of tree ferns, epiphytic ferns, orchids and Bwindi’s colorful array of butterflies. Here you may also see birds and primates from the forest edge. Alternatively, have a guided village walk and see how the Ugandans live. Overnight at Gorilla Resort or Buhoma Community Bandas (Full Board)

    Day 4: Drive to Kampala
After a morning breakfast, you will be driven back to Kampala stopping en-route for lunch in Masaka town, arriving in the evening. On arrival in Kampala, your safari guide will transfer you to your hotel. If you have energy, your guide will take you around the African Craft markets along Buganda road or to the National Theatre, where you can buy Souvenirs for yourself. Overnight at Speke Hotel, Mossa Courts or Hotel Africana (Full Board)

    Day 5: Airport Transfer
Your safari guide will collect you from your hotel and transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your outbound flight.

It is also well-known for its night game drives, that offer you nocturnal animals, like the white-tailed mongoose and slender mongoose, standard and pennant-winged nightjars, cats, hyenas and leopards.

Semuliki is the only place in Uganda where you can do a spotlit nighttime game drive. The park offers plenty of surprises and you never know what you might come across.

Overnight at Semuliki Safari Lodge or Kanyankyu Ecological site.

    Day 2: Semuliki Chimpanzee Tracking
Have a cup of tea before heading to the stunning rainforest for wild chimpanzee tracking. Chimpanzees are habitually tracked at the crack of dawn or sunset, due to the fact that they tend to vanish during the day.

There are also a number of bird species which are found in this charming forest. After an excellent chimpanzee walk, you will relax at the pool in the afternoon or go for game drives, while you watch the sun plunging. Have meals and spend the night at Semuliki Safari Lodge or Kanyankyu Ecological Site.

Day 3: Semuliki Game Drive, Head Off For Queen Elizabeth National Park
Game drive en-route from Semuliki National Park. The journey will take you through the attractive green countryside eventually ascending the Western Rift Valley to Fort Portal. You will then continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will reach the Park in the late afternoon and proceed on a nature walk around the Mweya Peninsula, where you are able to spot game like the Uganda kob, bush pigs, bushbucks, colobus monkeys and many others. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day 4: Wildlife Safari and Chimpanzee Tracking
Enjoy your breakfast and go for a forest walk in the Kyambura Gorge to trek the chimps and other primates. You may go for a walk in the Maramagambo forest to pursue primates.

You will retreat from the walk for lunch at the lodge and then go for a launch cruise in the afternoon. This boat trip will provide you with a fascinating opportunity to watch game, like hippos, buffaloes and many water birds. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or Institute of Ecology.

Day 5: Game Drive and Transfer Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Early in the morning prior to dawn, you will wake up for a game drive in the Kasenyi section of the park, to catch a sight of the early risers and predators disappearing to their hideouts.

After the game drive, you will enjoy a late breakfast and drive off to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You arrive around midday and check in at Gorilla Resort or Volcanoes Bwindi. After lunch at the lodge, you will take a rest or move around in the nearby areas, waiting for your dinner and overnight at the lodge with lots of anticipation of the next day’s activity, ‘Gorilla Tracking’.

Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Gorilla Tracking
This is the climax of your Gorilla Holiday in Uganda. In the morning, take sufficient breakfast to gain the power necessary for gorilla tracking. Before 8:00 am, report to the ranger station for registration and be briefed by one of the ranger guides.

You will trek through thick creepers and bushes looking for Mountain Gorillas, an exercise that could last between one and nine hours. It is marvelous to sit in the forest among the gorillas, looking intently at them, as they complain to each other. It is an extraordinary atmosphere being with these eye-catching human-like animals.

Time permitted with these primates is only 1 hour, as every minute counts. With a free afternoon, you can alternatively take a guided walk out on the Munyaga River trail that leads to three pleasant clean waterfalls with views of epiphytic ferns, tree ferns and orchid’s colorful butterflies. You may also have a guided village hike to see how the locals live. Overnight at Gorilla Resort, Buhoma Community Bandas (FB).

    Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Uganda Wildlife Safari at Murchison Falls Safari
Your safari will start as you depart from Kampala, heading to the mighty Murchison Falls National Park. It would be better to depart at 6:30 am and drive north via Masindi.

After Masindi, you can branch off to Zziwa Rhino Reserve in the district of Nakasongora District, for rhino tracking.  The rhino sanctuary was restored to harbor this most hunted and extinct wildlife. Efforts to restore and protect these magnificent animals which remained in the country were underlaid.

The reserve is a large section of land given to them and other mammals. While here, you will take this chance to track the Rhinos up close through the savannah and trees for two hours, then drive onward to Murchison Falls National Park, where you will arrive and check in.

As you wait to go for an evening game drive in Murchison Falls, which will find very rewarding, since you will spot our wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes of all types, warthogs, amongst others.

It won’t be a rushed wildlife safari event, but you will slowly but surely drive along the lake into the savanna, which is about 1/2 to 3 hours while driving with all the sounds, sights and a most wonderful evening sun setting, as you drive back to your lodging facility for a delightful dinner and overnight.

Dinner and overnight at Chobe safari lodge/Paraa Safari Lodge/Sambiya River Lodge/Global Village Guest House/Red Chilli Camp.

Day 2: Wildlife Adventure Safari at Murchison
Enjoy early morning breakfast at your lodging in Murchison falls before you break off for a second game drive. With the help of a game ranger, you will be guided to where you can spot the animals for the best wildlife viewing and wildlife photography opportunity.

Expect to see lion cubs play-fighting, elephants moving across the savannah and the giraffe grazing, then return to your lodge for lunch. After having the best lunch at your hotel, you will go for a boat cruise along the Nile River in Murchison Falls National Park. You will move up toward Murchison Falls viewing crocodiles, an abundance of buffaloes, antelopes of different types, hippos, elephants, birds, butterflies and so much more.

The boat cruise will slowly take you up the Nile River to where the magnificent Falls are stunningly displaying the power of nature. The journey down the river slowly begins and there will be more opportunities for seeing animals before you return to your lodging for dinner and a good night sleep. Dinner and overnight at Chobe safari lodge/Paraa Safari Lodge/Sambiya River lodge/Global Village Guest House/Red Chilli Camp.

Day 3: Travel to Queen Elizabeth Park
You will have breakfast and leave Murchison Falls from Luxury Paraa Safari Lodge for your Wildlife and Chimpanzee safari at Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will cross the Nile for the last time, from Red Chili camp or Global Village Guest House and stop over at the top of Murchison Falls for a visit and view the falls from above.

You will stop at the Masindi Hotel for lunch and continue with our journey to Queen Elizabeth where you will arrive late in the afternoon.  After a long day drive, it is simply relaxation, enjoy dinner and sit out listening to the sounds of the Africa Wilderness. Some animals will come quite close to you and make your evening interesting, as you enjoy your dinner at the lodge.

Dinner and overnight Mweya Safari Lodge or Kyambura Game Lodge/Simba Safari Camp/Ihamba safari Lodge/safari camp or Mweya Hostel.

Day 4: Explore Wildlife at Queen Elizabeth with a Game Drive and Boat Cruise
On this day, you will take a morning game drive to see the early morning risers at Queen Elizabeth National Park. After your game drive, you will return to your accommodation for breakfast and then pay a visit to the Crater Lakes region, which is such a breathtaking experience.

Afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga channel with all its wildlife and abundance of birds of different species, including the migrants.  Then it is off for another game drive in the evening. Dinner and overnight at your choice of accommodation in Queen Elizabeth. Dinner and overnight Mweya safari Lodge or Kyambura Game Lodge/Simba safari camp/Ihamba safari Lodge/Safari Camp or Mweya Hostel.

Day 5: Kyambura Gorge safari and the Bat Cave
This will be another wonderful day. After breakfast, we go Chimpanzee tracking at Kyambura Gorge the heart of Africa Queen Elizabeth Park and the Gorge in Kyambura. This morning you will be off for a walk, guided by a Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger, who will guide you to the area where the chimps are tracked.  Chimps move nightly so it takes the skills of an experienced ranger to guide you.

You will eat your packed lunch after the Chimpanzee trek, then off to the Maramagambo Forest area, where we will visit the Bat Cave and see birds, butterflies, trees and plants. Return to your Lodging for dinner and overnight sleep. Dinner and overnight Mweya safari Lodge or Kyambura Game Lodge/Simba safari camp, Ihamba safari Lodge/safari camp or Mweya Hostel.

Day 6: Travel to Bwindi Gorilla Forest Park
Your safari will continue, as you again start the journey to our Uganda safari highlights, heading for Mountain Gorilla trekking after a leisurely breakfast. Slowly drive towards Bwindi Impenetrable Park, going through the Ishasha Sector and hoping to see some tree climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth, since it is well known to be a home for the tree climbing lions in Uganda.

Reaching Bwindi in the evening, relax at your lodging, dinner and overnight sleep at Mahogany Springs/Gorilla Forest camp/Clouds Lodge/Buhoma community Rest camp/Wagtail safari camp/Lake/Buhoma community Rest camp/Ngongi Gorilla Resort or Bwindi View Bandas.

Day 7: Gorilla tracking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Breakfast at your lodging, then off for the morning gorilla safari briefing before you start one of the most stunning experiences – gorilla trekking (tracking) at the Impenetrable Bwindi Forest. The gorilla trekking experience at Bwindi may last from 2 hours to the whole day – it all depends on the movement of these gorillas.

This will be the safari highlight in the gorilla Park of Bwindi. The gorillas are mobile, they keep shifting new locations on a daily basis and can’t be in one place twice. There are no terms to explain what you will go through while on your Gorilla safari experience.  Just a powerful and awesome experience to see the gorillas up close within a distance of 5 meters in a group strictly composed of 8 people. Gorilla tracking does not permit children less than 15 years to take part in this experience, for health reasons.

The gorilla walk itself is worth taking, though it requires physical fitness, the kind of forest you will encounter, the ridges, valleys, the streams that flow through it and of course you will encounter birds, butterflies, baboons, plants and trees, as well as other wildlife besides the Mountain Gorillas. Dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs/Gorilla Forest camp/Clouds Lodge/Buhoma community Rest camp/Wagtail safari camp/Buhoma community Rest camp/Ngongi Gorilla Resort or Bwindi View Bandas.

Day 8: Travel from Bwindi National Park to Lake Mburo
The gorilla safari is almost coming to an end, as we check out of our accommodation at Bwindi.  A lovely breakfast, then on road to Lake Mburo National Park.  We recommend having a stopover before we end the gorilla safari with great and amazing wildlife, with dotted savanna trees. Lunch in Mbarara town reaching Lake Mburo in the afternoon to check in at your lodge. A boat ride in the afternoon on Lake Mburo is rewarding and a game drive in the evening.

The park is a home to wildlife and there is much to see from crocodiles to hippos, birds of all kind, zebras, antelopes of all types, bushbuck, buffaloes, plants, trees and much more. Transfer to our accommodation for dinner and overnight sleep. Dinner and overnight at Mihingo Lodge/Mantana Safari Tents/Arcadia cottages/Rwonyo Tented camp.

Day 9: Lake Mburo National Park to Kampala
Our 9-day safari is almost coming to an end as you check out of your accommodation facility in Lake Mburo: Enjoy a relaxed breakfast and an early morning game viewing safari and photography. Your guide will take you around the five lake game parks in Lake Mburo, seeing the delightful wildlife and birds of different types in a natural setting of acacia-dotted savannah trees. You will be driving towards the park gate, then a journey back to Kampala. On the way, the first stop will be Brovad Hotel in Masaka for lunch, a stopover at the equator is another adventure before you reach Kampala. Take some photographs while at this point and even shop crafts. We arrive Kampala in the evening and transfer to the Airport for your outbound flight back home, if your flight is on this day.
