Safari Overview
Mgahinga National Park, covering an area of 33 sq km, is located in Southwestern Uganda, about 14 km from Kisoro town. The park is home to rare mountain gorillas, whose trekking is the main activity. This gorilla habitat is in Kisoro district, where tracking takes place in the plentifully forested Virunga Volcanoes.

The Safari Itinerary to Mgahinga National Park
Day 1: Kampala to Kisoro
Drive 540 km from Kampala to Kisoro and spend the night at Mgahinga Safari Lodge or Travelers’ Rest.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking Mgahinga Forest
After an early morning breakfast, the guide will lead you through the gorillas’ world, explaining features of their ecosystem and behavior.
Gorilla trekking is the most thrilling and remarkable experience, taking one through a thick tropical forest for the whole day. The Nyakagezi group (tourist group) consists of 9 members: 3 adult females, 2 silverbacks, 2 juveniles, and 2 infants (tracking can take three to eight hours).
This exercise can be tiresome, so one has to be in good physical shape. It is prudent to wear sturdy shoes with good traction for muddy terrain and to carry binoculars for easy sightseeing. Spend the night and have dinner at Mgahinga Safari Lodge or Travelers Rest.
Day 3: Departure for Kampala
Have an early breakfast at dawn and drive back to Kampala to your accommodation for overnight and dinner. Take a lunch stop in Masaka Town at Brovad Hotel, then proceed to Kampala, where you will arrive in the evening. End of Gorilla Tracking in Mgahinga National Park.
